Frequently asked questions
Does my dishwasher take a lot of power to run?
The diagram will typically look like the one below, and will have a black indicator to state how energy efficient the model is. Anything in green (A-C) is typically the most energy efficient, and anything lower is typically less so.
It's also good to note that most energy providers offer off-peak lower rates. For example, some providers will offer a lower rate during 9pm-11pm each night. Check directly with your energy provider to find out if and when they offer this.
How do I keep my dishwasher in the best condition?
- Ensure your dishwasher salt is always topped up
- Run an empty cycle every few weeks
- Keep your rinse aid topped up
- Rinse dishes before loading them to remove any larger debris that may get stuck in the dishwasher filter
How should I load items into the dishwasher?
Always make sure that your crockery fits into the designated slots with plenty of space either side of it.
When washing something that's unconventionally shaped, it's advised to apply the same care, ensuring that there is ample space around all items.
Be mindful of where the dishwasher spray arms are, and be careful not to block these during loading. Should you place a larger item that blocks the spray arm, your items may not be cleaned to a satisfactory level.
Top tips for using your dishwasher
1. Always check that products are dishwasher safe
Products that aren't dishwasher safe may break or have the potential to cause damage to the inside of your dishwasher. You'll typically be able to find a symbol on the base of your product that indicates whether a product is dishwasher safe. The symbol may look similar to the one below.
2. Make sure you are using the right amount of detergent
Using the right amount of detergent is important. Using too much may leave behind a residue, and using too little may result in things being improperly cleaned. It's also important to check that your detergent is compatible with silverware, as some detergents can leave dark spots.
3. Don't overload the racks
Overloading your dishwasher may cause your crockery to be insufficiently cleaned. When the internal racks are overloaded, the water may not be able to reach some spots where crockery is too closely stacked.
4. Don't mix silver-plated and stainless steel in the same wash
Washing both together can trigger a reaction between both metals and deteriorate the finish.
